• February 22, 2010 -- 60 Photo Manipulation Tutorials for Photoshop (24)

In this tutorial we will make vector illustration effect on photo in photoshop. This will be quick and easy way to convert photo into a illustration vector effect.

Step 1:

First select any image on which you want to apply illustration effect

Step 2:

Duplicate the Background layer.

Step 3:

Now apply the Cutout filter (Filter => Artistic => Cutout). On the left side the amount of detail in the vector can be controlled by adjusting the Number of Levels, Edge Simplicity and Edge Fidelity sliders. For this example I am using 5 levels, with the Edge Simplicity set to 3 and Edge Fidelity set to 3. Click OK.

Step 4:

You can trace the areas of color divided by the Cutout filter with the Poster Edges Filter. For this example the Edge Thickness is set to 2, Edge Intensity to 1 and Posterization to 4. Click OK.

Step 5:

The color can be changed subtly with a Photo Filter adjustment layer.

Step 6:

And finally, to add to the ‘colored’ effect, a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer will help take away the natural highlights/shadows even more.

Step 7:

Today we will make a Metallic text effect in Photoshop. This tutorial is based on very simple steps.

Step 1.

Using the Type (T) tool type the text you want. Use bigger font. I have used Impact font.

Step 2.

Apply Drop Shadow layer effect with parameters as shown in the picture. To display Layer Style dialog window, just double click on the layer in the Layers palette.

Step 3.

Apply Inner Glow layer effect with parameters as shown in the picture.

Step 4.

Apply Bevel and Emboss layer effect with parameters as shown in the picture. One of the new features of Photoshop 6 allows you to have sharp bevel regardless of it’s size (Technique: Chisel Hard).

Step 5.

Apply Gradient Overlay layer effect with parameters as shown in the picture. To change the gradient, click on the gradient image and set the colors as shown.

Step 6.

And that’s pretty much it. Nothing more but layer effects, but looks very nice!

This tutorial will help you that how to make 3D Shadings. I have used very simple method in this tutorial and hope you will get it easily. Enjoy!

Step 1:

Create new document of 550 * 300 pixels and make gradient there and also you can set your own background, now i am using pink color gradient.

Step 2:

Now select Text Tool (T) and place any text on canvas. I am using text with font "Battleline" with white color and Anti-aliasing method is sharp.

Step 3:

Make new layer using short key CTRL + SHIFT + N and then press CTRL + [ this command will send 1 step down to new layer. Now press Ctrl button and click on text layer thumb you will get selection there.

Step 4:

Now I am going to make here shadow just follow these easy steps. Make shadow color in foreground e.g. #272727 and then select Marquee Tool (M). Press Alt + Backspace it will fill foreground color in selection. And now press down arrow and then press right arrow and then again press Alt + Backspace you will get one more level of shadow. Repeat this step 10 times and also set opacity of layer 60%.

Step 5:

If you see in above image 3D shadow has been done but now Ii would like to use some effect to make it more beautiful. Select layer of shadow and go to Filter Menu > Blur > Motion Blur. Give angle -45 and distance 30 pixels.

Now we have this result after applying blur effect.

Step 6:

Select Eraser Tool (E) and erase shadow from top and left sides

Step 7:

Apply linear gradient with angle 90.

Step 8:

Apply stroke with these values: Size: 1 pixel Position: Inside Color: 10a1ce

Step 9:

Apply glow style.

Step 10:

Apply Bevel and Emboss effect.

Step 11:

Apply Satin effect.

After all effects final result is this.

Rainbow Colorful Strips:

I tried to use as many colors as I can, but it is not having the real colors of Rainbow (i.e. VIBGYOR colors), but as it is having a lot of colors that is why I’ve given it a name as Rainbow colorful strips. How to make Smoke:

Very long ago I saw a tutorial in which the designer has put some smoke over a picture in which a lady was smoking, but in the picture there was no smoke and he added smoke over it. But this time I’ve used a different technique to make a real smoke, you can also used these kind of smoke over some pictures. So that tutorial which I saw long time ago was having Fog look instead of Smoke look, so my this tutorial would be having a real Smoke look.
